Playmate

Let’s pretend you’re me, I’m you—we
lie on our backs in the snow

and watch the cow jump over the roof.
It’s really the moon, but say the roof

and say my name is Susie,
yours is Trick. You’re the boy

and don’t wear socks,
I wear the boots & tutu.

Our arms are wands, our legs
are wheels, they roll our words in circles.

Circles are the sun. My sunshine,
only sunshine—Hey—

you hurt me and admit it,
else your Mama doesn’t love you,

else she never did. And lift me up,
‘cuz you are big and you are Trick.

So you be Susie in the boots
and I me again.

The moon is over the cow now
she can mix us chocolate milk.

We’re chocolate now, we’re bunny twins.
Promise you’ll never melt.
