Wild Violets

SAplants

Shade loving, shade meeting shade
moss-viridian & then the cool purple-indigo
flickering like meadow moths, moon-white,
the lustrous talcum scent perfect where rain is
Spring returning with the pitch of a clarinet
through pallet-pools of amethyst petals,
& turning breeze-clear for the passing month of May.

It is falling in love to reach these lavender fathoms,
the length of a Jack each curving for the pulpit
hood, crocus-ceremonious with crimson veins
running up the emerald.

Graves of so many are covered with such
knowing that hindsight is all which prevents
an eye for an eye in the war of roses
breathed blackened & shadowing like the night
these soft - (bud, touch) - purple heart spots.
