Here & Now

Diego PH

Alive and happy.

The brim of my hat
pulled low,
hands

in my pockets,
walking into a setting

sun. They came
streaking out
of the west.

I watched
her chase
and pin
a robin
to a chain link

fence. I could’ve
intervened, but

this agile hunter
had a family
to feed.
Tiny

fugitive—
an expert

at the art of ambush.
Weighing no more

than a blue
jay. Sleek, buoyant
and faster than

any angel.
