Beginning December 9, White Wall Review will open for submissions in the areas of interviews/reviews, fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. Please refer to our submission guidelines below for more information.

Submission Guidelines

Please ensure all submissions are in .doc. or .docx format. PDF submissions will not be accepted. Note: We post all publications on our social media platforms. Please include your Instagram and Twitter handles with your publication if you would like to be tagged online.

Fiction
We publish short stories and novel excerpts from 300 – 6000 words. Please submit only one piece at a time (unless you are submitting flash fiction, in which case you may submit up to three short pieces). For excerpts of forthcoming works, please make note of the publication date in your cover letter.

Poetry
Please submit up to five poems at a time (totalling no more than eight pages) in one file. Long poems and excerpts of unpublished works will also be considered. For excerpts of forthcoming works, please make note of the publication date in your cover letter. Non-fiction We publish personal essays, literary essays, and experimental hybrid forms. We consider essays from 600 – 6000 words. For excerpts of forthcoming works, please make note of the publication date in your cover letter.

Reviews
We publish reviews of new fiction, poetry, non-fiction, and graphic novels. While our focus is on reviewing Canadian works, we also consider works from around the world. Before submitting a review, pitch us your idea. Tell us the title of the book, publisher, date of publication, why you think the book should be reviewed, and what experience you bring as a reviewer. If you are a publisher and would like us to consider one of your titles, please mail a review copy to: White Wall Review Department of English, Jorgenson Hall 1036 Toronto Metropolitan University 350 Victoria Street Toronto, ON, M5B 2K3

Interviews

We publish interviews with writers and visual artists. The format is Q&A with an analytical/literary introduction to the artist’s work. If you would like to pitch us an interview, write to our editors at whitewallreview@ryerson.ca. Let us know: a) who the person is and what they make, b) why you think the world needs to know more about their work. For examples of the form our interviews take, please see our interviews section.

Visual Art/Photography
We publish photographs and other works of visual art (ie. illustrations, paintings, collages, digital art, etc.) in both colour and black and white. All art and photos submitted must be high resolution, and uploaded in either .JPG or .TIFF form. Please submit all pieces at one time (10 files max.) and include a brief artist’s statement with your submission.

We take time and care in reviewing your submissions. We typically take three months to review your work. If you haven’t heard back from us after three months, please feel free to send our editors a note. Thank you for your patience. Please note we do not offer payment at this time.
