Submission Guidelines

Fiction

We publish short stories and novel excerpts from 300 – 6000 words. We will consider only one piece at a time (unless you are submitting flash fiction, in which case you may submit up to three short pieces). For excerpts of forthcoming works, please make note of the publication date in your cover letter.

Poetry

Please submit up to five poems at a time (totalling no more than eight pages) in one file. Long poems and excerpts of unpublished works will also be considered. For excerpts of forthcoming works, please make note of the publication date.

Note: Please do not submit work more than once per year. We take time and care in reviewing your submissions. If you haven’t heard back from us after three months, feel free to send our editors a note at whitewallreview@torontomu.ca.

Nonfiction

We publish personal essays, literary essays, and experimental hybrid forms. We consider essays from 600 – 6000 words. For excerpts of forthcoming works, please make note of the publication date in your cover letter.

Visual Art/Photography

We publish photographs and other works of visual art (e.g., illustration, painting, collage, digital art, etc.) in both colour and black and white. We are especially interested in work with a literary character, such as calligraphy, comics, and images that tell a story. All art and photos submitted must be high resolution, and uploaded in either .JPG or .TIFF form. Please submit all pieces at one time (10 files maximum), and include a brief artist’s statement with your submission for inclusion with your published work.
